I was charged with reckless driving last night (11/06/07)
I have been convicted of reckless driving earlier this year, and I lost my license for 6 months. It was recently reinstated in July.

I recently receieved a reckless driving ticket(89 in a 65) on 288 in Powhatan. I was just looking around at estimates of lawyers in the area. Being a college student i need to make sure i find a reasonable quote.

Based on these facts alone, this does not appear to be sufficient for a reckless driving charge. We look forward to defending you.

I was sighted for Reckless Driving while making a turn and the rear of my motorcycle kicked out. It was cold outside and the engine and tire were cold resulting in the least possible traction at the time. I was given the ticket by another officer that was radioed to and never saw the accusing officer.

I was traveling north on I-81 through Shenandoah County, Virginia, approaching the town of Woodstock. I was in the process of moving from Dallas, TX to Philadelphia, PA. At the top of a hill, I came up behind two slow-moving 18-wheelers in the right lane. I moved into the passing lane to get past them and came around them just as we started down the other side of the hill. I noticed two or three slow moving cars in front of the trucks and noticed in my rear view mirror that the tail truck had come into the passiing lane behind me and was accelerating fast. In order to insure both my safety and the safety of the cars in the right lane, I accelerated down the hill to get past the cars and to give the truck behind me plenty of room. It was at that point that I saw to the left, behind a berm and down in a hollow the trooper's car. I took my foot off the accelerator, but knew he'd already had the opportunity to clock my faster speed on his radar. He pulled out, turned on the flashers and stopped me and wrote out the attached summons. I thought about pleading guilty and signing the trial waiver. If I wanted to do that, the instructions given me are to send in the signed Summons and on the trial date, December 18, 2007, the Judge would assess the fine and I'd get something in the mail informing me of the total fine and costs to pay. I've decided against this action for two important reasons:1) I strongly object to this being classified as "reckless" driving. Yes, I was speeding, but I did so in order to insure my safety and the safety of those around me. That was a highly responsible action on my part and the polar opposite from "reckless".2) The State of Virginia appears to not just assess a fine, it also slaps on a $1,050 "civil penalty" for each offense. I am afraid they might do this to me twice, one for speeding and one for "reckless" driving. Plus, who knows how much the fine will be that the judge will assess, at his own discretion. I refuse to willingly become a piggybank for the State of Virginia for trying to do the right thing out on the highway. If you can help by providing me with legal representation at the trial, I'd would appreciate it.
